The Clay Connection is pleased to present the first workshop of
2009, featuring Pam Eisenmann.
Pam, a past president of The Clay Connection, will present a
workshop on “Post-fired Finishes.” This refers to surfaces that are applied
after firing and are an alternative to glazed ceramics, offering a way to
control surfaces and effects that may not be possible with traditional ceramic
processes.
Pam’s demonstration will include the use of acrylic colors,
metallic patinas, and sealers, as well as a discussion of other materials and
methods Pam calls her whimsical creature-oriented clay work “serious fun.”
Her work is an ever-evolving exploration and manipulation of
clay that combines wheel and hand formed components to create fanciful,
functional creature forms. Pam likes to see what develops in the exploration
process and says that it’s most fun when the creatures start looking back at
her. Ms Eisenmann has approached her work from a humorous and quirky viewpoint,
and is currently exploring creatures on wheels. She has over 35 years of working
in clay as a student, teacher, art center manager, and studio artist, and
currently maintains a studio at Manassas Clay where she also sells her work.
This workshop is offered free of charge to members of The Clay
Connection. It is open to non-members as space allows for a nominal fee of $10.
