Horsehair Workshop page 2

September, 2002

Jessie applying horsehair to her potDenise with her horsehair potWe carefully placed single strands of horsehair on the pot.  It seems that the coarse hairs of the tail and main work the best.

We also felt that the horsehair should be used sparingly, and it was possible to create a design with it.

It was a lot of fun to see the horsehair curl and snake dance on the hot pot.  It also formed a cloudy shadow above the squiggly line.

We sprinkled a bit of sugar on the outside, making dots, and even threw some inside the pots to add interest.  Sometimes a flame would burst from the opening as the sugar caramelized inside the pot.

We also used feathers instead of horsehair and everyone was excited about the possibilities.

The pots were sprayed outside very carefully by Ed, who was wearing a respirator.

The next page will show some of the results of the workshop.
