Currently scheduled Raku Firings:
Saturday, October 29th 4:30-9:30pm - Sorry, Sold Out
Saturday, November 19th 4:30-9:30pm
Sunday, April 15th, 2012 1-6pm
There is a base fee of $60 for the workshop which will include a full shelf kiln
load,
typically 4 or 5 pieces. The price per each additional shelf is $20.
Workshops must have at least 3 people enrolled (minimum price is $180) and you can set up your own group.
No more than four participants per group. We like to do a good job for
you.
Bring your bisque fired pieces to Raku. We will discuss all aspects of the
Raku process. Wear clothing that completely covers your body, including
your toes. Overly baggy clothes can be dangerous. Cotton is great,
synthetics are dangerous. Glazes and tongs will be provided.
Set up your own raku firing! We'll also let you set up your own horsehair,
saggar, or naked raku workshop if you can put together a group of people.
Recommended clay types: The clay must be able to withstand thermal
shock (yep, we'll pull 'em hot out of the raku kiln). Typically, white or
buff clay looks best. Grog is good, and we recommend Soldate 60,
Raku clay, and Phoenix. Porcelain seems to hold up pretty good
too. Bee Mix 10 may have some losses, but I fire it all the time.
It's important not to have a thick bottom with thin walls, even thickness helps
a lot.
Special
Arrangements:
For people who want to experience the raku firing process but don't want or
know how to make their own vessels, we provide an opportunity for you to have
fun glazing and take two already made small raku pieces home with you! Join one of the above raku workshops and pay just $30. Additional pieces will be made available
to glaze and fire for $12 each.
